This cheeky monkey helped build this tower out of (fortunately) soft dominos and then crashed it down a moment later! I've been trying to encourage T and D to work together as part of keeping some "school-type" work in the holidays.

As previously, T has tried to take charge and D doesn't respond best to firm orders, she's more of a "let's try and do it like this" in a gentle tone. So, T having got frustrated with his sister, it was down to us to match, count and build creations to be knocked down virtually immediately.

Next was beanbag throwing at soft tin-can-type numbered targets. Big mistake. D's co-ordination lets her down when it comes to throwing and with what the turn-taking element and disappointment that her brother (who is naturally sporty and uber-competitive) led to a meltdown.

Several deep cuddles later, we gave London 2012 a try, this went much better but the intellectual differences become very apparent. D will roll the dice and then manually count the dots, putting a finger on each and then slowly move her figure along, occasionally forgetting what the number was. T, eager to get on, quite often telling her the numbers. It was all good-natured though, on the most part, we all had our spells in the j a i l square and, for any London 2012 fan who likes Monopoly, I'd recommend it for the little characters alone. There was Mandeville, Wenlock, a phone box, a taxi can, a tube train and a bus - all iconic imagery (this is nearly turning into a review but I bought this!!).

This evening has been much calmer, buoyed on by the fact we have a trip out tomorrow and it's been used as an incentive (meanie Mumma).

On the whole, meltdown aside, it's been a good day. It was very nice to see patient turn-taking this afternoon and D certainly had fun this morning with the dominoes.

She absolutely loved knocking them down, repeatedly!!
