A Social Story saves the day! Tues 24th Sept 2013

Written by Jeannette

I have to admit that, selfishly I'm missing the greetings I receive in the afternoon from D when she's had a good day at school. The "Mumma!" when she spots me, closely followed by a I'll-bowl-you-over run up and body slam.

Another subdued greeting today, head downcast and already waiting in Reception.

However she was holding something that transformed her mood instantly, a social story for the ultrasound scan she is having next week.

The autism liaison lady really came up trumps, I was having difficultly finding any PECs online to demonstrate the procedure and once she'd received the timetable of events, she produced the story very quickly.

D had literally been given it at the end of the day so hadn't seen it and she immediately engaged with it. Even showing the lollipop lady we pass on the way home! Probably TMI (!) but as D hasn't wanted to acknowledge her at all recently - such has been her negative reaction to recent school days - it was a sign that D was feeling happier.

T was interested in it too, it's definitely proved a discussion point. He's been calmer today, his football magazines arrived on time (yay) but as unempathetic as ever towards his sister.

Both excited for tomorrow as it's Hubbie's birthday, I have a feeling that "Happy Birthday" may be sung early tomorrow morning!

So, that's us. I hope everyone's day has gone well, comments/RTs/shares as ever welcomed, thanks for reading Jx 😘
